Behind the Scenes

We actually filmed this video on a whim back in the beginning of October and had the "final" premiere editing done a week later. Then it sat around on Travis' computer for more than a month before it was finally finished up in After Effects and released. So, while the official release date is November 18, it should have been something more like October 18.

You'll notice we filmed at Sean Joakimson's old house, which was being renovated so they could sell it, and the music is by independent artist Joakim Back. Make no mistake, Sean Joakimson may have Joakim Back's first name in the beginning of his last name, but they are not the same person.

The biggest different between Overly Possessive and all of our older films is the use of Burger's digital8 camera resulting in nicer quality footage and a higher resolution (720x540). Something not so different from most of our other films is that we forgot to bring the script with us. Also, the inspiration behind the script came from the shooting of Unsuitable in which Mike continually fucked up on his "you know it!" line and eventually said "hey, how about I open my mouth and Zorn yells my line for me?". Hilarity ensued.

Pipi is the name of the statuesque thing that is revealed in the end of the film. Travis acquired him from an abandoned house a year or so before the making of Overly Possessive and kept him in the corner of his room next to his TV. Everyone had been wanting to find a role for Pipi in a film because he looked so cool and Mike finally made it happen. On a tragic note, Pipi was recently brutally murdered by the Knights of the Naked Castle after Travis found out Pipi isn't one-of-a-kind. Speaking of Travis, he set the record for most times anyone has ever yelled "SHUT THE FUCK UP" during a Naked Castle shoot. Reflecting later, he commented that having so many useless people in the background was a big mistake.

Alternate Endings:

  • Pipi was originally supposed to rise up from under the table. Also his voice was supposed to be done by Peter but everyone got attached to Zorn's voice-over so it stayed.
  • A scene from the script was cut in which Bill's friend "gets up and walks out of the room, returning to throw a whole bunch of coats, a baseball helmet, and ductape bat on the table then walks out." Bill's friend getting up and running out the front door replaced the cut scene.

Crew Comments

"Even though I liked it, it still feels like an unfinished product." -Zorn
"I wasn't satisfied with a lot of the camera angles and I wish I had spent more time on the cinematography. Mike was really hard to direct in this video, but I really enjoyed working with Burger and I'd like to get him involved in more of our films." -Travis
"I really love this one, but I gotta agree with Zorn that it feels unpolished." -Rizzotti
